I'm in the market to buy and I'm frustrated about the lack of market data available.
I get some information from my realtor about individual sales and listings but it's sparse and I can't help but think I only get the information they want to send me, not an objective current set of data I can use to see trends and get real price comparisons. I'd like to see historic sales data, rental prices, quantity of sales and inventory. I'd like to be able to compare it all over time and across neighbourhoods.
Why can't buyers have unrestricted access to this information? I feel like realtors hold power over buyers and sellers by controlling and hoarding this data. I resent the fact I have to pry it out of the people that are supposed to represent my best interest.
To be clear, I'm not blaming individual realtors. It just seems we have a systematic and profound imbalance to access information on the biggest purchase of our lives.
